Cooking Steps
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add 1 small diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
- Introduce 2 minced garlic cloves to the pan, stirring for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add 1 pound of ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up into small pieces and cook for 6-7 minutes until fully browned.
- Whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup water, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, and 1 tablespoon sesame oil in a bowl.
- Prepare the cornstarch slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup cold water until smooth.
- Pour the teriyaki sauce over the browned turkey and stir well; let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Slowly add the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously to thicken the sauce over 1-2 minutes.
- If desired, add 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes while stirring.
- Serve the teriyaki turkey mixture over cooked rice and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
