- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in garlic until fragrant. Cook ground beef and Italian sausage until browned, draining excess fat. Mix in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 20-25 minutes until thickened.
- In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, sour cream, egg, Parmesan, and parsley. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and layer with meat sauce, noodles, and ricotta mixture, repeating layers. End with noodles, sauce, and mozzarella. Drizzle with melted butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Allow to rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish as desired and serve.
