- Caramelize Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add sliced onions and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Stir in balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
- Prepare the Sandwich: Reduce heat to medium-low, melt remaining butter. Assemble sandwich with cheese, caramelized onions, sliced pear and apple, add another layer of cheese, and top with a second slice of bread.
- Grill Sandwich: Increase heat to medium, grill the sandwich for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
