  • 1 cup Almond Paste homemade or store-bought
  • ½ cup Butter softened
  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar adjust to taste

  • ¼ cup Sliced Almonds optional, for crunch
  • powdered Sugar for dusting before serving

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface, keeping it at about ¼ inch thickness.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling down the center third of the puff pastry, leaving edges clear.
  5. Slice 1 inch wide diagonal strips along both sides of the pastry.
  6. Fold the sliced strips alternately over the filling to create a braided look.
  7. Brush the top of the pastry with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar after cooling slightly before serving.
