- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, and then blend in vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, alternating with sour cream; mix until just combined.
- Fold in chopped apples and optional nuts gently using a spatula.
