Method
 

Steps
  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the finely chopped onion, celery, and carrot for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, paprika, and optional cayenne pepper. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir continuously for about 1 minute to thicken.
  5. Gradually pour in the broth, stirring vigorously to eliminate lumps and allow it to simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, then use an immersion blender to purée until smooth.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 10 minutes on low heat.
  8. Gently fold in the cooked crab meat and cooked shrimp, then simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve.
