Preparation Steps
- Start by draining the firm tofu and wrapping it in a clean kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on top and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Once the tofu is pressed, unwrapped, and sliced into uniform 1-inch cubes.
- In a medium bowl, mix together honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Whisk until well combined.
- Spread cornstarch in a shallow dish, coat each tofu cube thoroughly, and shake off any excess.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry tofu cubes in batches for about 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown.
- In the same skillet, lower the heat and pour in the sauce. Simmer for about 1 minute until slightly thickened.
- Add the crispy tofu to the skillet with the sauce and gently toss to coat evenly.
