Casserole Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Cook the breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, stuffing mix, and dried cranberries. Stir gently.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the sausage and stuffing mix, folding gently with a spatula. Mix in cheese if desired.
- Transfer the mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley if desired.
