  • 3 pounds Beef Short Ribs The star of the dish.
For the Marinade
  • 1 cup Soy Sauce Swap with tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Honey or maple syrup can substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Rice Vinegar Apple cider or white wine vinegar works as a substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Hoisin Sauce Mix equal parts soy and sugar if out.
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Fresh grated is best.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Fresh minced garlic recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil Olive oil is a substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Paste Optional for heat.
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Opt for freshly ground.
For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions Chopped.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds Feel free to skip.

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Prepare the beef by rinsing and patting dry.
  2. Make the marinade by whisking all marinade ingredients together in a bowl.
  3. Marinate the beef by placing it in a bag with the marinade for at least 2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
  5. Sear the beef in a skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  6. Transfer the seared ribs to a roasting pan and pour the remaining marinade over them.
  7. Cover the pan with foil and roast for 3 to 4 hours.
  8. During the last 30 minutes, remove the foil to allow caramelization.
  9. Check tenderness by testing with a fork.
  10. Let the beef rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
