Preparation Steps
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast until evenly mixed.
  2. Create a well in the center and pour in warm water and olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. While dough is rising, cook turkey bacon until crispy, then chop. Combine with other filling ingredients in a bowl.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide into six equal portions, rolling each into a ball. Flatten each into a 6-inch circle.
  7. Place filling on one half of each circle, fold over and press edges to seal. Crimp with a fork.
  8. Beat one egg and brush it over the calzones for a golden finish.
  9. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  10. Cook 2-3 calzones in the basket for 12-15 minutes until golden brown, flipping halfway through if necessary.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving; best enjoyed warm with marinara or garlic dipping sauce.
